Living on Boyne Island |
|
|
 |
With a population of about 8000, Boyne Island and Tannum Sands are located approximately 550 Km north of Brisbane and is at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Gladstone has many amenities and facilities available also and is a short 20-minutue drive from Boyne Tannum.
A bridge that crosses the Boyne River links Boyne Island and Tannum Sands. It is right on the beach with many of the houses in the area offering glimpses of the sea - if they do not have a view then they are within short walking distance of either the river or the beach.
Some of the offerings in the area are:
- Beautiful long white sandy beaches
- Little variance in the water temperature from winter to summer means that the water is warm enough to swim all year long.
- The millennium esplanade has accessible recreational facilities in the form of parklands and BBQ areas which are free to the public and provide a great setting for picnics and BBQ's at any time of year
- 15km of riverside walkways allowing cycling and walking called "The Turtle Way" -includes the walkway that leads directly to the smelter so walking and cycling to work is popular.
- Excellent Boating & fishing
- Close proximity to the Great Barrier Reef
The Smelter itself is approximately 5 minutes drive from the township of Boyne Island and is not visible from the township. The Smelter currently employs around 1300 personnel making it one of the largest employers in the Gladstone area. |
